Friday, September 5 (Show Registrants):
The weekend will kick-off on Friday, when we rendezvous around 4 pm at the mouth of the Black River in Port Huron for a cruise down the beautiful St. Clair River to the City of St. Clair for dinner. It’s only about a 10 mile run. Last year we had more than a dozen members join us for a nice dinner. It will be great to see all the old boats running neck to neck just like the old days. It will be a great time to take pictures of the boats in action. If you can’t make the run form Port Huron, you can meet us in St. Clair for dinner on your cruise north to the Port Huron Show, or you can drive by car (not as much fun getting there) and you will have a great time having dinner and enjoy the company of fellow boat lovers.
***Our featured boat this year is the U-22 and to talk about the boat, we have a special speaker, Bob Matson. Bob is the author of What’s in Your Boat House? Amazing Stories of Nautical Archaeology, a collection of stories and photos about old boats; and the stories of finding and making new ones. Bob said of his book released in June, 2013, “I've been asking people what's in their boat house for years. I've collected serendipitous full-circle tales, family histories, incredible restorations, complete with photos of pleasure craft in barns and garages, and where they really belong, on the water!” Bob Matson is a veteran radio & television broadcast executive with many diverse talents and experiences. He has served as an on-air personality as well as manager and sales manager of several radio and television stations in the Midwest. Today, Bob owns Matson Motors Marine & Small Engine Repair, specializing in vintage boat and outboard restorations. He is a columnist for The Timberjay Newspapers and Minnesota Moments Magazine, featuring vintage boats of the north. Bob has served as Executive Director of the North American Bear Center and host of The Bear Facts radio show. When not feeding wild bears out of his hand, he carves wooden fish and bears with his chain saw. He is a member of the Antique Outboard Motor Club, Inc. and the Bob Speltz Land O' Lakes Chapter of The Antique and Classic Boat Society, Inc.
